Lexis+ with Protégé (formerly Lexis+ AI).

Lexis+ with Protégé is LexisNexis's integrated AI assistant, sitting on top of the full LexisNexis primary-law corpus and Shepard's citation service. The product was rebranded from Lexis+ AI in February 2026. It targets the same enterprise legal-research market as Westlaw Advantage and is positioned as a "research, drafting, and analysis" platform.

The corpus.

LexisNexis primary law (federal and state cases, statutes, regulations), LexisNexis exclusive secondary sources (treatises, encyclopedias, practice guides), Shepard's citation validation, Practical Guidance across 25 practice areas, web and news sources (for "General AI" mode), and the firm's own documents via DMS integration with iManage, SharePoint, and NetDocuments.

· 02 ·

Training-data policy.

"Customer data is not used to train public AI models" and "is not used to enhance AI performance for other customers." LexisNexis states that "identifiable information is removed from AI interactions" used for platform performance improvement, providing a de-identified-aggregate carve-out alongside the customer-data carve-out.

· 03 ·

Retention.

Vault results retained 90 days under conversation history. Document uploads under 11 documents auto-purged at session end. Vaults retained indefinitely until deleted by the user. The default-purge behaviour for small upload batches is unusual in the category and worth noting.

· 04 ·

Certifications and attestations.

Detailed certifications not enumerated on the product page; LexisNexis references its Trust Center at trust.lexisnexis.com. Firms doing diligence should request the current SOC 2 Type II report, the latest ISO 27001 attestation year, and the specific BAA terms in writing.

· 05 ·

Enterprise controls.

DMS integration with iManage, SharePoint, NetDocuments. Legal AI mode explicitly grounds all responses in LexisNexis sources and includes Shepard's citations. General AI mode pulls from web and news sources and is the operational tier for non-research queries.

IXSOR tier rating: Enterprise · fit for legal.

Enterprise-fit-for-legal rating is supported by the citation-grounded architecture, the Shepard's validation pass on returned citations, and the explicit no-training-on-customer-data commitment. The 90-day vault retention and the auto-purge of small upload batches are notable privacy features that distinguish Lexis+ Protégé from competitors with longer default retention.

· 07 ·

Recommended uses.

  • Legal research where Shepard's citation validation is the operational priority.
  • Drafting workflows where the firm wants a single integrated platform for research and document analysis.
  • Firms already on iManage, SharePoint, or NetDocuments DMS.
· 08 ·

Diligence cautions.

  • The published page does not enumerate specific SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 attestation year, or BAA terms; obtain these in writing before signing.
  • The "General AI" mode pulls from web and news sources and is not Shepard-validated; firm policies should restrict its use for filed work.
  • The DMS integrations are a powerful feature but extend the data-flow boundary; the firm's privacy framework needs to address the full integrated workflow.
